Livingston County Literacy Coalition Receives $10,000 Grant from
the Dollar General Literacy Foundation to Support Adult Literacy
Howell, MI 6/9/26 – The Dollar General Literacy Foundation (DGLF) recently awarded the Livingston County Literacy Coalition (LCLC) a $10,000 grant to support Adult Literacy programs in Livingston County. The funds contribute to a record setting, single day total of nearly $16 million in grants nationwide—supporting adult, family, and summer literacy programs in the 48 states where Dollar General operates.
LCLC will use the grant funds to strengthen and expand its volunteer tutor program, which is at the heart of the organization's mission to empower adults through literacy. Funding will support the recruitment, training, mentoring, and ongoing professional development of volunteer tutors, helping ensure that our cherished learners continue to receive high-quality, individualized instruction.

Our recent Volunteer Tutor Training brought together an incredible mix of people from across Livingston County—all showing up with one thing in common: a desire to help. From first-time volunteers to those with past experience, the room was full of energy, curiosity, and connection right from the start.

Tutors practiced real-life scenarios, learned how to keep things simple, and discovered that meaningful tutoring often starts with something as basic as a conversation.

We're so excited to see this group begin making connections, building confidence, and supporting adult learners in our community in ways that truly matter.
