Our recent Volunteer Tutor Training brought together an incredible mix of people from across Livingston County—all showing up with one thing in common: a desire to help. From first-time volunteers to those with past experience, the room was full of energy, curiosity, and connection right from the start.
Tutors practiced real-life scenarios, learned how to keep things simple, and discovered that meaningful tutoring often starts with something as basic as a conversation.
We're so excited to see this group begin making connections, building confidence, and supporting adult learners in our community in ways that truly matter.
Want to make a real difference? It can start with just one hour a week. It’s never too late to learn, and you can be part of that journey for someone else.
LCLC Trains New Cohort of Volunteer Tutors
LCLC Participates in MACAE's
1st Annual Adult Literacy Summit
The Michigan Adult, Community, and Alternative Education Association (MACAE) held its first annual Adult Literacy Summit at Livingston Educational Service Agency on March 12th. Leaders in adult literacy from across the state gathered to discuss issues, generate new ideas, and share resources on topics ranging from program development and the training of tutors to grant management and the importance of data in advocacy.
LCLC was ably represented by its new Volunteer and Community Outreach Manager, Breanne Green, and its Board Secretary, Joel Render, who had helped to plan the event. Both came away with valuable new insights that they are eager to adapt and implement to best serve the literacy needs of adults in Livingston County.
